Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
\n

    \n
  • Run set ups of portable fire stations, air manifolds, oxygen/propylene stations on government vessels and commercial tugs & barges.
  • \n
  • Measure, cut, form, fit and connect metal and plastic pipe, test for leaks and insulate as required.
  • \n
  • Install and check operation of a variety of plumbing fixtures such as toilets, sinks, bathtubs, etc.
  • \n
  • Adherence to industry codes, specifications, and regulations.
  • \n
  • Install and connect temporary shore power to lighting, ships systems support equipment and alarm systems during overhaul / repair operations.
  • \n
  • Install, test, maintain and remove temporary services to U.S. Navy vessels, tugs, barges, ferries, etc..., during overhaul/ repair operations. Temporary services provided may include HVAC, air and water for various uses, effluent discharge and steam.
  • \n
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and lubricating for industrial production and processing systems.
  • \n
  • Select type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • \n
  • Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
  • \n
  • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping, using hand tools and power tools, and following specifications and blueprints. Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks.
  • \n
  • Regular inspection of all pipes and detecting malfunctions and damages if any.
  • \n
  • Reporting all damages, issues and other matters relating to the pipe systems to the supervising authority.
  • \n
  • Understand and act upon instruction.
  • \n
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, respirator.
  • \n
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities.
  • \n
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance.
  • \n
\n
Required Education and Experience:
\n
    \n
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • \n
  • Previous shipboard experience.
  • \n
  • Vocational training as a pipefitter preferred with 2 to 3 years of experience.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade.
  • \n
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • \n
  • Enter and move through manholes to reach and work internally confined spaces.
  • \n
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker.
  • \n
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow simple instructions.
  • \n
  • Experience in hooking up ship services fire protection, cht, steam, Lp air, to ship risers.
  • \n
  • Have knowledge of chlorination of potable water hoses, hydrostatic testing of fire hoses & fittings.
  • \n

Working Conditions:
\n
    \n
  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office-controlled environment.
  • \n
  • May have to visit projects aboard ships, rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.
  • \n
  • Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
  • \n
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
  • \n
  • Perform prolonged standing.
  • \n
  • Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • \n
  • Lift/push/pull 50lbs on an occasional basis.
  • \n
  • Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.
  • \n
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).
  • \n
  • Ability to work at heights above 12′ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts.
  • \n
  • Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).
  • \n
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
  • \n
  • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
  • \n
  • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
  • \n
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
  • \n
  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
  • \n
  • Ability to enter 18″ x 36″ openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time within OSHA guidelines.
  • \n
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • \n
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.
  • \n
  • Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.
  • \n
  • Some travel required.
