About the Role
The Company is seeking a visionary and collaboration-oriented academic leader to serve as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. The successful candidate will be responsible for articulating a strategic direction for the department that aligns with the School and university-level initiatives, managing the department's budget and resources, and developing partnerships to enhance the department's and School's reputation. The Chair will also oversee curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and student affairs, and will be expected to teach in their area of expertise. The role requires a candidate with an MFA or PhD in a relevant field, a minimum of 5 years of university-level teaching experience, and a well-established research agenda. The Chair will be a key figure in shaping the academic and creative environment of the department, fostering a culture of respect, professionalism, and civility, and ensuring the success of the department's faculty, staff, and students. Applicants for the Chair position at the company should have a strong background in the performing arts, with a focus on either theatre or dance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in academic administration, leadership, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming academic environment. Effective collaborative and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students. The Chair will be expected to have a 1/1 teaching load and should be prepared to engage in direct interaction with students and model scholarship within the department. The position is open to candidates with a tenure-track or tenured faculty appointment, and the company is committed to providing a supportive and equitable work environment.
