Volunteer Opportunity: Interior Design for Museum Exhibit Are you passionate about interior design, art, and creating immersive experiences? The Before Slavery Museum is seeking a creative and detail-oriented volunteer to assist with designing the interior space for our upcoming exhibit in February. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an exciting cultural project while showcasing your design skills in a public setting. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the curatorial and exhibition teams to design a cohesive, engaging interior space that enhances the overall exhibit experience. Develop layout plans, spatial arrangements, and visual elements that complement the theme and content of the exhibit. Select and recommend materials, furniture, lighting, and color schemes that support the exhibit's concept and atmosphere. Ensure the design is functional, accessible, and in compliance with museum standards and safety regulations. Assist with the installation and setup of the design elements. Qualifications: A background in interior design, architecture, or a related field is preferred but not required. Strong creative and conceptual thinking skills, with an eye for detail and spatial design. Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar tools) is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with museum staff and external vendors. A passion for museums, art, and creating meaningful experiences for visitors. Time Commitment: Estimated 10-15 hours per week leading up to the exhibit opening. Flexible hours, with the ability to work remotely on design concepts and in person for installations.
