The Enterprise Communications Services 3 (ECS3) program supports our intel customer across its CONUS & OCONUS operating locations. Our focus includes the design, transition, operations, and continual service improvement to include tech modernization, tech refresh, activities associated with customer local area networks (LANs) and unified communication (UC) services. Our mission on this program will be the design, transition, operations, and continual service improvement to include tech modernization, tech refresh, or Capital Equipment Replacement Program (CERP) activities associated with the clients’ LANs, CAN and Unified Communication services. As a Cable technician, you will support the NOC and Operational staff in break fix tickets and building our Access and distribution cabling to support technology insertions. Responsibilities include installation and documentation of new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure including conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber and all associated elements in client buildings. Must follow DIA and commercial best practice procedures (BISCI, EIA/TIA) standards for installation of cable racks, wiring, and testing. Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure. Knowledge of standard copper 568‐B Color code, 25 pair color code, and Fiber 12 strand Color Code is required. Responsible for service orders and repair activities related to Category 6 cabling, VOIP, and fiber optic cabling infrastructure including copper terminations on patch panels, modular plugs, jacks, and fiber splicing/terminating. Dress, terminate and test cables and components using hand and power tools, powder actuated tools, and ladders. Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors. Basic networking skills required. Install, maintain, and repair voice and data communications cabling systems. Interpret service orders, circuit diagrams, floor plans, and networking logic diagrams. Test, locate, install, and repair cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls and perform routine maintenance. Use Excel and Microsoft Word to input data into databases and maintain cable records. Verify service by testing installed cabling, identifying, correcting, or escalating problems. Use network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, Fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters. Record testing information. Read network documents and label networking equipment and cables according to diagrams; create as-is diagrams of cable efforts according to customer requirements. Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies. Participate in special projects as required. Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards. Required qualifications include High School/GED + 4 years experience, or Associates + 2 years, or Bachelors + 1 year. Must be able to walk long distances, lift up to 50 pounds, load equipment, climb ladders, and work on overhead cabling. DOD 8570 Certification required: Current IAT II (Security +, for example). Clearance requirement: Minimum TS/SCI with polygraph. This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately.
