Duties
- Coordinate the processing of firearms and firearm components in support of the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) process.
- Perform physical inspections of various firearms to collect data for verification, testing, and tracking.
- Test fire various firearms to collect physical evidence for data analysis.
- Support and enter information into the eTrace database.
- Conduct and support eTrace investigations for firearm ownership.
- Work with the CGIC team and support the cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).
Requirements
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
- Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice; -AND-
- Three (3) years of experience in maintaining records and performing data entry.
- Experience in a scientific laboratory preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
- Successful completion of the APD Firearms Safety Course within six (6) months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
- Basic operations, services and activities of a forensic laboratory program
- Basic operational characteristics of equipment and tools
- Basic scientific laboratory techniques and procedures
- Office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
- Principles and procedures of record keeping
- Basic operations, services and activities of a records management system
- Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
- Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- General firearms knowledge and firearms safety
- Copperfire and Tiburon software
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Operate a variety of forensic equipment and instruments in a safe and effective manner
- Interpret and explain department policies and procedures
- Respond to requests and inquiries from department Personnel
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Maintain the confidentiality of the information received
- Operate a variety of office equipment
- Maintain and update a variety of records and logs
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Perform the essential functions on the job with or without reasonable accommodation
