Senior Principal Scientist, Cell Therapy Research, Molecular Immunobiology and Discovery Team

Join Bristol Myers Squibb as a Senior Principal Scientist in the Cell Therapy Molecular Immunobiology and Discovery team. In this role you will be a key leader in molecular design, lentiviral and AAV engineering, and viral and nonviral production methods to accelerate nextgeneration cellular therapeutic pipelines.

Position Summary

The Cell Therapy Molecular Immunobiology and Discovery team seeks a highly motivated, dynamic, and selfdriven scientist to deliver on our critical goals. The selected candidate will focus on designing and validating novel molecular cargoes, backbones, and viral particles; optimize researchgrade virus production for earlystage CART programs; and work with the automation team to innovate pipelines that increase production and transduction efficiency. You will be a seasoned molecular biologist and virologist with strong expertise in viral vector engineering and an indepth understanding of transgene delivery challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to develop innovative molecular engineering strategies and viral production methods that improve expression, function, and throughput.
  • Design experiments, organize and analyze results, and communicate progress to the group.
  • Evaluate and prioritize molecular technologies, genedelivery cassettes, and viral platforms, delivering complete data packages for timely Go/NoGo decisions.
  • Collaborate with SMEs inside and outside the team to assess the functional impact of novel engineering strategies on our CAR and eTCR cell products.
  • Work with other team members and leaders to enable adoption of new methods and designs in ongoing programs.
  • Lead a matrixed group of scientists and research associates, providing direct supervision under limited management oversight.
  • Understand the context, impact, and timely communication of data.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors (or Masters/Ph.D.) degree in Life Sciences.
  • 10+ yrs of academic and/or industry experience for Bachelors, 8+ yrs for Masters, 6+ yrs for Ph.D. level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong virology expertise, preferably lentiviral, with experience using other viruses and nonviral delivery methods.
  • Deep understanding of generegulation principles and optimization of transgene expression and function.
  • Extensive experience delivering molecular cargoes into human primary cells, ideally T cells.
  • Proficiency in molecular characterization to understand and optimize transgene performance.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Attention to detail, creative problemsolving, and adaptability to a fastpaced environment.
  • Willingness to think outside the box.

Additional Relevant Qualifications

  • Industry experience in adoptive engineered Tcell therapeutics (CART or eTCR).
  • Experience with viral and nonviral gene delivery for genetherapy products.
  • Experience with invitro T cell functionality assays, flow cytometry, activation, proliferation, and imaging.
  • Experience with highthroughput screening.

Compensation Overview

Seattle, WA: $191,860 $232,492 per year. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility. Final compensation will depend on demonstrated experience.
