Performs responsible para-professional work in a public library environment. Requires ability to accommodate flexible work schedule which will include some evening and weekend assignments. This position is supervised by a Librarian or Library Assistant II.
Assists with copy cataloging in collaboration with Librarian
Checks materials in and out, reserves and locates materials for patrons, issues patron cards, receives and charges for overdue materials, helps with various technologies including library computers, and all other Circulation functions
Assists with sorting donated materials
Performs basic cleaning and organizing throughout the library
Other duties as assigned
Currently enrolled in a two year (or 60 units) program at an accredited college or university and two years of paid experience in a public library at a clerical level or higher, or equivalency required; OR Currently enrolled in an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program having completed a minimum of nine (9) credits or units of classes required.
Knowledge of Sirsi ILS preferred.
Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons, co-workers, colleagues, officials, community residents, etc.
Demonstrated resourcefulness in staying abreast of trends, patterns, innovation in Library-related operations and services.
Skill in utilizing Microsoft Office and other business software.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation in order to effectively perform the essential functions.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data; operation of a variety of equipment and technical devices; determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, manipulate library materials from shelves at floor level to a height of eight (8) feet; maintain a safe working environment; work a flexible schedule, including weekends and after hours; travel to other locations for meetings and training sessions.
